COUNTY ROAD 16 OVER MEADS CREEK

HUNT was retained by Schuyler County to complete preliminary and final design along with Construction Inspection for the replacement of the bridge that carries CR 16 over a tributary to Meads Creek in the Town of Orange using federal funds.

The project replaced an existing steel jack arch structure with a new reinforced concrete rigid frame structure having a 28' clear span and 6'-8" clear rise. A submerged cast-in-place concrete invert slab was constructed to support the new structure while providing for a natural streambed.

The project improved the safety of an approach horizontal curve as well as the radius of a nearby intersection. Other project features included construction of new bridge rail and approach guiderail along with tree planting and wildflower seeding to restore the natural environment.

An on-site temporary bridge was used to handle traffic during construction due to the lengthy detour that would have been required. The project was constructed on schedule with the new bridge open to traffic in advance of the NASCAR race which brings a heavy amount of traffic through the project area.
